Everyone,

The West Milwaukee CC has been a wonderful home for the club over the past 3 years. Due to some difficult new contract issues with the center, we are considering moving to a new location and need your help.

If you know of a new or better location for the club to meet, please post about it here! If you've been going to club meetings for a while you know what we are about and the requirements for a good meeting location. But even if you are in doubt, post the location here anyway and your Officers can be the judge.

We just need suggestions right now and the Officers will deal with all contracts and negotiations with the new location. All we need from you is the address, contact info and maybe even a contact at that location to get things started.

Also, would anyone be interested in the club meeting on a different night during the week? Say a Saturday night for example?

One location you might look at is the Oak Creek Community Center. I don't know what their policy is but I can go research and report back. I think either Friday or Saturday would be the best days

Fridays are best. I don't think I'd ever make it if it was any other day...although I don't have the best attendance as it is.

I don't really have any new ideas on location, but I always liked the South Milwaukee CC. I don't know if you guys left there because of schedule conflicts or price hikes or what, but I just thought I'd throw it out there. Just don't move out to Waukesha or way up north, please!

South Milwaukee was nice, but I believe it does not exist any more.

The SMCC is now a Pizza Place. The Community Center part of it went out of business and the organization running it wasn't able to keep it a float. We'd love to go back if possible, but the location is not even an option anymore.

We are really needing to find a new location too. The WMCC is being very difficult with our new contract to say the least.

Sorry for the late reply, time is very much a luxury for me right now.

The club is still working on both fronts. Those being,

1. Seeing if we can get back into the West Milwaukee CC, which is slow going.

2. Finding a new location ^_^

If you have any suggestions or thoughts, please post it here. Until a new location is found we just don't have any meetings. Tough to say it, but unfortunately these things just happen at the worst of times. The WMCC has been a great home to us for over 3 years and has decided now is the time they want to make things very difficult on us.

Is the first meeting of June still up in the air? I'll still plan to have the newsletter ready.

We are still working out the details with our meeting location and unfortunately we are not sure when the matter will be resolved. The club is considering alternative meeting locations. Currently all meetings are postponed until we can get a site for our gatherings. If you have a suggestion or know of a good place for us to meet, please email an Officer today!

Perhaps we should temporarily meet at a library. That would appease members until we can find a suitable location. I know you have to be quiet there, but it's only temporary. I can call around and see what libraries are friendly to club meetings. The Anime Underground (formerly Milwaukee Anime Meetup) now meets at the West Allis Library and it allows food! I'll keep looking too.

Members one and all,

We are currently only holding on meeting this month on July. Please do NOT go up to the meeting location tomorrow evening. Thanks!

Hmmmm,

Would a library be okay with us making noise? Is there a fee?

I'm pretty sure you can't eat there, but there may be specific rooms that allow food. Boisterousness should probably be kept to a minimum with the door closed, but that's a price that I think people would pay if it meant that we can keep having meetings. It's only temporary. I was looking on the Milwaukee Public Library website and it says that you can use rooms up to 6 time a year, for 4 hours at a time. I cannot open the application at the computer I am, but I'll call them Monday and inquire about the cost. I'm not sure there is a cost, because the only time they discuss charges is if an org leaves a mess ($50 for a cleaning crew). But you have to complete the application at least two weeks ahead of time and affiliated groups have priority. It doesn't say what libraries have media to view material, but I'm sure that I can call about it!

What about location, does it matter? Should it be on a bus-line? What about renting a hall? Just some thoughts...
By the way, how did the meeting go in Sussex? Did everyone have fun?

P.S. I think Saturdays would be great! Fridays are good, too!

At the library, you can have have snacks, but not sell them. What the Anime Meet-up group did was have a donation pot and snacks provided. There is no fee, but like I said earlier, it can only be used up to 6 times a year. So I think it's a back-up plan, as long as we notify them at least two weeks ahead of time and the room is free. One thing is that the library has to be open during the meeting and the average hours for the libraries are...

Mon - Thu: 10 am- 8:30 pm
Fri & Sat: 10 am- 5 pm

That pretty much sucks for meeting times, especially during the weekend!!!

The meeting in Sussex went well. We had a good turnout for it too.

And to address your question, location is a huge factor and one that cannot be taken lightly. Finding the right location for our needs is not easy, especially when you are on a budget and cannot afford to just rent out hotel ballrooms and the like. Renting locations is not cheap and the club doesn't have enough funding to support expensive locations.

If the club just wanted to meet in a single room and watch anime with the lights out, we'd be able to use the library or something. But we are a full interactive experience at our meetings and because of that, certain locations just won't work for us.

At the West Allis library, where Anime Meetup meets, they do not turn off all the lights and the room is pretty big and is actually outside of the library, on the other side of the entrance hall, so it depends on what the specific meeting rooms look like. But, yes, they are one room. If you want, I can call each library that offers a meeting room and get the specifics about each room.

I know you want to know about the media set up and the capacity and if we can have food there. Is there anything specific that I should I ask?

Thanks for the help Crystal.

Basically we need a location that offers enough room for at least 40 people and hopefully larger with room to grow. How we do our meetings in the past is a great reference for the future. We like to hook up video games and the projector apart to create that separation for those that want to be quiet and just watch anime.

If the rent is free, the selling of snacks and drinks is preferred, but not required. And the location should be in the Milwaukee area (Milwaukee County is fine).

I have a suggestion. There is a cafe on 21st and Wells on the edge of downtown in the Marquette area call Ruby G's Cafe. The Milwaukee OWBN Vampire Larp has been using it for a couple of years on the 2nd, 4th, and optional 5th Fridays of every month. The site is large enough for the clubs needs, has computers onsite, a side room for anime (or whatever), and plenty of good food and drinks.
The Larp pays $50.00 each time they play, but that game charges an admission of $3.00 to defer that cost. The owner does close the site to that group and would do the same for us if an agreement were reached. The only downside - since he does serve food (Hot cooked meals very cheap prices and really good quality.) no outside food can be brought in or sold. The Larp generally has a large number of people who will show and eat dinner there which helps justify his costs.
YOu'd prolly be able to get the same deal and be able to stay till 12:00 on the 1st & 3rd Fridays opposite The Vampire Larp.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Actually, it might not depending on what the target population for membership is and the meeting location. If it is teens and pre-teens, it could work for a Saturday meeting. As they can come and spend some time and then go off and do other things with their Saturday. Weekdays wouldn't work since they are in school and have homework, sports teams and school clubs. Parents can drop them off and pick them up during daylight hours and feel safe about the experience. It's only a problem for teens and pre-teens who participate in tournaments and go to proms imo. Sometimes transportation can be an issue on the weekend imo.

It's not ideal if you are working and come to meetings or rely on the meeting as your primary social activity imo.
